Given below is the list of items with their prices as provided by the shopkeeper. \begin{align*} & \text{Rice – 5 kg ₹ 350 /-} \\ & \text{Tuar dal – 2 kg ₹ 250 /-} \\ & \text{Cookies – 1 Packet ₹ 100 /-} \\ & \text{Peanuts – 2 kg ₹ 120 /-} \\ & \text{Almonds – 1 kg ₹ 600 /-} \\ & \text{Sugar – 3 kg ₹ 220 /-} \\ & \text{Salt – 1 Packet ₹ 45 /-} \\ & \text{Jaggery – 2 kg ₹ 100 /-} \\ & \text{Tea – 1 Packet ₹ 50 /-} \end{align*} (i) Amisha pays ₹ 1785 for the items. Is the amount paid by Amisha correct? Justify your answer.
Sol. No, the actual amount is ₹ 1835.
Total amount paid by Amisha:
= 350 + 250 + 100 + 120 + 600 + 220 + 45 + 100 + 5
= ₹ 1835
(ii) What is the price of the rice per kilogram that Amisha purchased?
Sol. Cost of 5 kg = ₹ 350
Cost of 1 kg = ₹ 70
(iii) Amisha buys three 1 kg packets of sugar. The MRP mentioned on each packet is ₹55.00. Did the shopkeeper charge extra for the sugar? Justify your response.
Sol. Yes, the cost of 3 kg sugar should be 3 x 55 = ₹165
